The Designer’s Mantra

This is a simple guide to would-be, should-be, and could-be designers out there! Whether you’re a student, working mom, or a certified Interior Designer, these Seven Mantras will help you conceptualize design for the best room ever!

1.Measure is Treasure

You can effectively design an interior if you have measured every area of the room.

Carefully planned placement of furnitures that fits perfectly matters most to clients. A tape measure would be your bestfriend ever!

2. Color is Life

You must be good in choosing the right color based on your client’s desired theme. You can browse through Pinterest and search for color palettes or different theme you desire and bam! the search results would be endless.

Don’t be afraid to explore on different shades, hues and tones that would work best in the room. Oh I love this mantra!

3. An inspirational image saves the day

Ever heard of ‘inspirational image’? This is in the form of a picture, a piece of furniture or figurine, or any piece that has a unique and decorative feature. Start looking for an inspirational image that captures the overall theme you desire in a room.

Save time figuring out where and how to start the design process by first focusing on this and use it as your ‘inspiration’ to select different style elements for your room.

4.Every project must have a DIY touch

This would give a personalized touch for clients which will make them feel like home. You can involve them too in the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) process. It would be more fun!

5. Greenery is the Key

Don’t forget to add plants to your interior styling. It would be best to put plants that purifies air and gives luck. Having plants at home whether real or synthetic adds a relaxing and refreshing feel and compliments any style as well.

6. A little feung shui goes all the way

We are all fascinated with Feung shui as it brings luck and good vibes to a home. You don’t need to be an expert to add a touch of feung shui. A simple chime, incense, mirror, candles and lucky plants would do the trick.  If you want to go further, you can research on proper location of bed and other auspicious elements to further enhance your space.

7. Lastly, Don’t forget to make yourself or your client cry!

Seriously! Make it a goal, that when they see the outcome of the room, it would be exactly what they imagined or ‘something better’ and that would make them cry.

Just in case, that you get to design your own room, then make yourself cry for all the efforts you’ve made that will really put a ‘wow’ factor. 🙂
